Most people use the terms social media and social networking as if they mean exactly the same thing. Spoiler alert: they don’t.


While the two are closely related, they describe different parts of how people interact online.


Social networking refers to building and maintaining connections with other people online. Social media, on the other hand, focuses on the content being created, shared, and consumed across those connections.
